Genesis 'X Gran Convertible Concept' Updated... Could It Go into Production?

Genesis has unveiled an updated version of its concept car, the 'X Gran Convertible Concept', which was first shown at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show. The model, which was revealed again at the Le Mans 24 Hours race, which concluded on 14 June, is a two-door convertible based on the flagship saloon G90, and signals the direction of the Genesis brand's expanding line-up.

The exterior design achieves a more dynamic look, distinct from the production G90. Unlike the G90, which emphasises elegance through curves, this model actively incorporates sharp, straight lines to refine the front-end appearance. The horizontal lines centred around the headlamps harmonise with Genesis's signature twin-line headlamp design, visually widening the car's stance. The air intake area on the front bumper has been designed to hint at the presence of a high-performance powertrain.

The roof adopts a hardtop folding mechanism. The rear wheel arches express a distinctive three-dimensional feel typical of a convertible, thanks to the side horizontal line that runs from the headlamps. This horizontal line continues all the way to the Gurney flap on the boot lid, simultaneously conveying elegance and the aerodynamic dynamism of a high-performance vehicle.

The upgraded concept model is presented in two versions, each with distinct visual characteristics. The model finished in 'Liquid Titanium' features a colour combination inspired by the Genesis Magma Racing team's hypercar, the 'GMR-001', expressing the dynamism of motorsport. Inside, Magma Orange leather is used on the upper sections, while a classic check-pattern textile is applied below, with a deep black gloss finish between the two materials to create a visual boundary. The model finished in 'Midnight Teal' creates a more relaxed atmosphere with its green-toned interior.

Genesis continues to showcase concept models based on the G90, alongside the mid-engined sports car, the Magma GT. Among these, the wagon-style 'G90 Wingback' attracted significant attention at the launch event for the 'GV60 Magma', the first production model under the Magma brand.

With the unveiling of these various Genesis concept models, market interest is growing regarding the actual launch timeline of future production versions and whether they will be road-legal.
