Xiaomi SkyNomad N90: flagship three-row crossover with a long driving range

Xiaomi has fully unveiled its large SkyNomad N90 SUV, equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. In China, only pre-orders for the Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 are currently available, with full sales set to begin in September. Alongside the Xiaomi SkyNomad N90, its smaller sibling, the Xiaomi SkyNomad N70, also made its debut, but we will dedicate a separate article to that model.

The Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 is one of the most highly anticipated new arrivals on the Chinese car market in 2026, though it will have to contend with fierce competition, as the market is currently flooded with large plug-in hybrid SUVs. The Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 is certainly not the cheapest, the most powerful, or the most luxurious of them — its development focused instead on practicality and an extensive driving range.

For those unfamiliar, SkyNomad (translated into English as "heavenly nomad") is a new vehicle line within the Xiaomi brand, designed primarily with passengers in mind, whereas the SU7 and YU7 electric vehicles are driver-focused. The SkyNomad N90 is built on Xiaomi's own modular Kunlun platform, which took three years to develop. Surprisingly, there is currently no information on whether this platform uses a 400-volt or 800-volt electrical architecture. The suspension is fully independent and air-based, with double wishbones at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear.

The SkyNomad N90 measures 5,285 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,825 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,080 mm. Standard wheels are 21 inches. To support a range of electronic driver assistance systems, the body integrates a lidar sensor, radar, high-resolution cameras, and ultrasonic sensors. These assistance systems are powered by a high-performance Nvidia Thor processor delivering 700 TOPS. The wading depth is 750 mm, and the kerb weight is 2,880 kg.

The powertrain is a series plug-in hybrid, where a front-mounted 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 152 bhp operates as a generator, charging a traction battery with a capacity of 76 kWh. The wheels are driven by two electric motors: the front one delivers 210 kW and the rear one 100 kW, giving a maximum combined output of 310 kW (422 bhp). Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 6.3 seconds, and the top speed is 190 km/h. The electric-only range on a single charge without engaging the combustion engine is 464 km under the CLTC cycle, while in hybrid mode with a full 60-litre fuel tank, the total range extends to 1,705 km.

The SkyNomad N90's cabin features three rows with a 2+2+3 seating layout. Boot capacity ranges from 577 to 1,831 litres depending on the chosen configuration, and there are numerous options: for instance, you can set up a mobile office with a table for four, or create two full sleeping areas. The minimalist front dashboard includes an 8.88-inch instrument display, a 20-inch head-up display, and a 16.1-inch multimedia screen. Second-row passengers are treated to a ceiling-mounted 21.4-inch television, a 6.88-inch control screen, and individual tablets. The onboard refrigerator has a 9-litre capacity. The standard 4,890-watt audio system boasts 25 speakers.

During the pre-order phase, the Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 is available in a single Max trim priced at 299,900 yuan (approximately £32,500 at current exchange rates). As is customary in China, the actual retail price will be lower. Later, a five-seat version without the third row and a camper variant featuring a roof-integrated pop-up tent will also become available.

That said, the standard SkyNomad N90 is also well equipped for travel: you can attach a tent of the desired capacity and comfortably spend the night outdoors with the whole family.
