New Audi A2 e-tron 2027

Recently, fresh photographs and videos have been published online, showing prototypes of a new German hatchback with a relatively small amount of camouflage. Thanks to these, we have the opportunity to form a more accurate impression of the upcoming model's appearance.
The Audi A2 was first presented in 1997 as a concept, with the production version entering the assembly line at the end of 1999. One of the car's main features was its fully aluminium body. The five-door hatchback remained in production until 2005. Over six years, more than 176,000 units were produced. Incidentally, we invite you to read a comprehensive article dedicated to the history of this hatchback's creation and failure. The model did not receive a direct successor, although the Audi A2 Concept was unveiled in 2011, sharing virtually nothing with the first generation. It never went into production, but the hatchback will soon be revived—and this time it will bear a much stronger visual resemblance to the original.

First and foremost, the distinctive shape of the roof and side glazing evokes associations with the first generation. Another striking detail is the dual rear hatch glass, divided by a spoiler. The front end design will be original, with familiar elements limited to the upper 'eyebrows' of the daytime running lights, similar to those on the A6 e-tron and some other models in the brand's lineup. The main headlight units are unusually small and will likely be integrated into a contrasting black insert on the front bumper. The door handles are positioned along the beltline, reminiscent of the latest-generation BMW X5 crossover. At the rear, horizontally elongated angular taillights and a large black insert at the bottom of the bumper—housing the number plate recess—can be noted. Additionally, the car is depicted with newly designed alloy wheels.

The new Audi A2 will be an electric vehicle (hence it will adopt the e-tron suffix typical of such models) and will be built on the MEB+ platform. The Volkswagen ID.3 Neo hatchback, which is the closest relative of the revived A2, is also based on this platform. The electric motor may be borrowed from it, offered in three variants for the Volkswagen: 170 hp, 190 hp, and 231 hp, with the top version claiming a range of 630 km on a single charge (WLTP cycle). The motor is positioned on the rear axle (meaning the hatchback will be rear-wheel drive), so it is likely that the A2 will not feature quattro all-wheel drive.

The premiere of the new Audi A2 is expected this autumn. Meanwhile, exactly one month ago, the updated Audi A3 family was unveiled.
