L&F signs mid-to-long-term LFP cathode material supply contract with US-based CoreShell
LG Energy Solution's materials affiliate, L&F, a global secondary battery materials specialist, has announced the signing of a mid-to-long-term supply agreement with US battery technology company Coreshell Technologies for LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cathode materials.
L&F secured this agreement based on its capability to supply LFP cathode materials that can comply with US supply chain and origin regulations, including the Outbound Investment Executive Order (OBBB). By securing a non-Chinese supply chain that meets the stringent standards required by the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) and other defence and strategic industries, the company is strengthening its competitive advantage across regulation-sensitive sectors.
Coreshell is a battery technology company headquartered in California, USA, developing next-generation battery platforms utilising American-made silicon metal. The company has been conducting technology validation and sample supply activities targeting global automotive OEMs, and is expanding its business into electric vehicles, grid-scale energy storage systems, and defence applications.
Through this agreement, Coreshell has established a battery supply framework that excludes Chinese-sourced minerals and components from cathode to anode, while meeting US domestic production and regulatory compliance standards. In particular, it has secured large-scale production capacity capable of meeting supply chain requirements across key demand sectors including defence, electric vehicles, and grid-scale energy storage.
Jonathan Tan, CEO of Coreshell, stated: "This agreement marks a significant milestone in realising our 'non-Chinese supply chain-based battery' strategy. We have laid the foundation to reliably supply batteries that meet the highest levels of regulatory compliance demanded by our customers."
Through this collaboration, L&F's LFP cathode materials are expanding beyond their existing ESS-focused applications into mobility and defence sectors, broadening their footprint across global strategic industries.
Ryu Seung-heon, CFO of L&F, commented: "Securing this North American customer is another achievement demonstrating that L&F's LFP business has a stable and sustainably expandable foundation. Based on our dual-track strategy encompassing ultra-high-nickel NCM and LFP, we will respond broadly from premium electric vehicles to the mass-market segment, and contribute to building the stable, competitive non-Chinese supply chains that global customers require."
