German high-performance car manufacturer Porsche is unveiling its new customer motorsport model, the '911 GT4 R', for the first time. Instead of the previous GT4 customer motorsport model based on the 718 Cayman, this car is designed around the 911 platform to meet GT4 regulations. The new 911 GT4 R is equipped with a 4-litre, six-cylinder naturally aspirated boxer engine producing 520 horsepower, and is set to debut in 2027.

The FIA homologation class GT4 is a racing category established by motorsport promoter SRO. It serves as an entry-level class for FIA homologated GT racing, with lower operating costs than the higher GT3 category. GT4 races are held in various countries around the world; domestically, the GT4 class is contested within the CJ Super Race Championship.

The new 911 GT4 R is designed based on the 992.2 version of the 911 GT3 model. Compared to the previous Club Sport model based on the 718 Cayman, it features a higher-output engine, a wider track, and precision electronic equipment. These elements provide an advantage in driving performance and stability amidst the fierce competition of motorsport.

The high-revving 4-litre six-cylinder boxer engine is based on the unit used in the 911 GT3, with race-suitable tuning. It delivers 520 horsepower and a maximum torque of 47.92 kgf·m, though actual output will be adjusted according to the Balance of Performance (BoP) regulations set by race promoters. Engine power is transmitted via a motorsport-specification sequential six-speed gearbox, operated by steering wheel paddle shifters, and a quad-disc clutch.

To comply with GT4 regulations, the body has a track width approximately 1 inch (25.4 mm) narrower than the base 992.2 911 GT3. Additionally, the wheel fastening system is changed from centre-lock to a five-hole design. A racing suspension with two-channel adjustable dampers and three selectable spring rate settings is also provided.

The bodywork and structure make extensive use of elements from the 911 Cup model. The rear wing is adjustable across 11 angles. Some exterior body panels are made from natural fibre-reinforced plastic and epoxy resin materials.

The interior layout is also similar to the 911 Cup model. A 10.3-inch colour display provides the driver with essential driving information, and a GPS-linked data logger system is fitted. Additionally, mounts for ballast weights required for BoP application are provided inside the vehicle.

Since Porsche first entered the GT4 class in 2016, it has produced over 1,500 GT4 race cars to date. The new 911 GT4 R, developed based on this technical expertise, will be delivered to global motorsport customers starting in 2027.
