Tesla Model Y L Reportedly Coming to U.S. Market with Three-Row, Six-Seat Layout

Tesla plans to launch a larger Model Y L variant in the U.S. market, a model already available in markets including China, Australia, and India. According to Forbes magazine, this extended-length Model Y will feature a three-row, six-seat layout, aiming to fill the product gap left by the Model X, which was discontinued this spring.

The Model Y L is approximately 178 mm (about seven inches) longer than the standard Model Y, with a roof height increase of nearly 51 mm (about two inches). Its seating adopts a 2+2+2 configuration, with the second row offering only independent "captain's chairs" to enhance legroom and overall comfort for third-row passengers. In comparison, the current standard Model Y, while also offering a seven-seat option, has relatively cramped third-row space.

It remains unclear which powertrain options the Model Y L will offer in the U.S. market, but the initial version is expected to feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. A single-motor rear-wheel-drive variant may also be added to the lineup later, though it is uncertain whether a high-performance version will be available for this model.

The Model Y L for the U.S. market is expected to be produced at Tesla's Gigafactory Texas, with deliveries planned to begin by the end of 2026. According to Cox Automotive data, the Model Y is the best-selling all-electric vehicle in the U.S., with approximately 78,591 units sold in the first quarter of this year, accounting for one-third of total U.S. electric vehicle sales during that period.

Tesla has not confirmed the above information. A company representative, in response to media inquiries, stated that they are not currently confirming the content of the relevant reports.
