Ford’s large flagship SUV, the Expedition, has reportedly obtained domestic emissions certification. According to the Korea Emissions Certification and Information System (KENCIS), certification for the Expedition 3.5L four-wheel-drive model was completed on 10 June 2026.

The Ford Expedition is equipped with a V6 3.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engine. Two power outputs are available within the same powertrain, and the model that has now received certification is expected to be the seven-seat Platinum trim, combining a ten-speed automatic transmission with an engine delivering a maximum output of 446 bhp and peak torque of 70.56 kgf·m. The starting price in South Korea is from 111.1 million won.

Designed with cargo space utilisation as a top priority, the Expedition’s boot combines the advantages of the liftgate found on conventional SUVs with the functionality of a pickup truck’s tailgate. In other words, like the BMW X5, when opening or closing the tailgate, the upper three-quarters of the gate opens upwards, while the remaining lower quarter folds downwards like a truck.

This lower tailgate can support up to 227 kg, making it usable as an outdoor dining table or workbench. An optional backrest seat can also be added. A power outlet is also provided to make the tailgate area more practical.

Considerable attention has also been paid to interior storage space. A power-operated console box, which only opens when the driver presses a button, allows valuables to be stored securely. The second-row seats are configured as a bench seat, while the third row includes a reclining function and can be split-folded in a 60:40 ratio.

In addition, four lights installed on the exterior of the vehicle can brightly illuminate the boot area and the surroundings, and these lights can be controlled via the infotainment system. In front of the driver, a 24-inch panoramic display instrument cluster is positioned high up, close to the windscreen, replacing both the traditional instrument cluster and the head-up display (HUD).

The central infotainment display measures 13.2 inches and supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. This central display works in conjunction with the upper 24-inch panoramic display to create a dual-screen interface, and also supports voice recognition.

For second-row passengers, smart device holders are installed on the back of the front headrests. These holders can secure most devices, from smartphones to large tablet PCs.

The Expedition is characterised by significantly enhanced convenience for trailer hitching and reversing. Pro Trailer Hitch Assist™ uses the rear camera and corner radar to help align the trailer coupling with the hitch. The vehicle automatically controls speed, steering, and braking, allowing the driver to stop in the precise position to easily connect the trailer.

Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ tracks the trailer’s position using the camera and predicts its path when the driver reverses with a trailer attached. When the driver specifies the direction the trailer should go via the display, the vehicle automatically controls the steering wheel to safely position the trailer where desired. The Expedition’s maximum towing capacity is 4,354 kg.

The Ford Expedition, which is nearing its domestic launch, is expected to meet the needs of South Korean consumers for large, high-displacement petrol SUVs. Previously, the Chevrolet Tahoe was sold as a rival model in this class, but its domestic sales have now ceased, leaving virtually no direct competitor. In the premium brand segment, models such as the Lincoln Navigator, Lexus LX, and Cadillac Escalade are currently sold in the South Korean market.
