Budget Suzuki Brezza crossover gains new tech after facelift

Suzuki has unveiled its updated compact SUV, the Brezza. The model has received a refreshed exterior and improved equipment. The engine range has been expanded with a one-litre turbocharged three-cylinder unit. Finally, the five-door model has gained a new manual gearbox.
This affordable Suzuki crossover has been in production since 2016, created specifically for India, where it is manufactured – production is handled by Maruti Suzuki (a subsidiary of the Japanese firm). The SUV debuted under the dual name Vitara Brezza, but in 2022, after moving to the second generation, the model became simply the Brezza. Incidentally, for a time the crossover ceased to be an Indian exclusive – it was also supplied to South Africa. However, export deliveries later ceased. In India, the Brezza initially topped the list of the country's most sought-after SUVs. But then interest in the crossover began to decline. Last year, it ended in the red: according to local media, sales fell by 7% to 175,310 units. The facelift is intended to boost demand.

The crossover's front end has been redesigned. The Suzuki Brezza has gained a new bumper, and the new fog lights are now positioned higher than on the pre-facelift model. The radiator grille features a different decorative insert. New wheel designs have also been introduced (still 16-inch). Additionally, three design packages are available – for example, the Turbo set with red accents.

Dimensions remain unchanged. The Suzuki Brezza is 3,995 mm long (in India, cars under four metres in length qualify for significant tax breaks), 1,790 mm wide, 1,685 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,500 mm.

Inside, a different climate control unit has been fitted, and the trim materials have been refreshed. As before, 'basic' trims come with a 7-inch multimedia tablet (the entry-level SUV has no multimedia system at all). However, the top-spec Suzuki Brezza now features a 10.1-inch screen (previously 9-inch). The range-topping version also now includes ventilated front seats, new ambient lighting (64 colours), lane departure warning and rear cross-traffic alert systems, and an improved surround-view camera. As before, the top-spec crossover also has a sunroof, wireless smartphone charging, a head-up display and cruise control.

The main technical update is a petrol turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine producing 110 bhp (the aforementioned Turbo package with red trim is specifically designed for this turbo version). The Suzuki Brezza also retains the naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine (103 bhp) and its bi-fuel CNG version (88 bhp on methane). Meanwhile, the five-speed manual gearbox has been replaced by a six-speed manual. Only the 6MT is offered with the 1.0T and the Brezza CNG, while the pure-petrol SUV with the 1.5 also comes with a conventional six-speed automatic. Finally, in the bi-fuel SUV, the gas cylinder is no longer located in the boot but underneath the floor. Drive is exclusively front-wheel drive in all cases.

The updated Suzuki Brezza crossover will cost at least 739,900 rupees, equivalent to approximately 601,000 roubles at the current exchange rate.
