Volkswagen ID. Cross declassified: tech and interior from the ID. Polo, but with its own looks

The starting price of the new fully electric crossover from the German brand is already known: in Europe it is €27,995, which is equivalent to roughly 2.5 million roubles at the current exchange rate.

The Volkswagen ID. Cross concept debuted at the beginning of autumn 2025, a camouflaged prototype appeared in March, and now the German manufacturer has fully unveiled the production SUV of the same name. For the record, the newcomer is intended to serve as an alternative to the "hydrocarbon" VW T-Cross. The closest relative of the ID. Cross is the ID. Polo hatchback, which premiered at the end of April 2026.

The Volkswagen ID. Cross soft-roader has been given its own exterior, which nevertheless follows the brand's current corporate design language. The model features a traditional five-door body, conventional door handles and exterior mirrors, full roof rails, and a decorative element comprising three large body-coloured strokes on the black rear roof pillars.

The crossover features LED headlights that are visually integrated with the blanking panel in place of the radiator grille, with the headlights connected by a wide illuminated strip, in the centre of which sits a backlit brand logo. The ID. Cross is also fitted with plastic body cladding around the perimeter, including wide rounded arch trims, plus silver inserts in the lower sections of the front and rear bumpers. The rear is further adorned with a neat spoiler and a full-width light bar, as seen on the "green" Polo.

The overall length of the Volkswagen ID. Cross is 4,153 mm (18 mm longer than the current VW T-Cross), the width is 1,794 mm (12 mm wider), the height is 1,581 mm (5 mm lower), and the wheelbase is 2,601 mm (50 mm longer). The new crossover offers a boot capacity of 475 litres, which expands to 1,345 litres with the second row of seats folded down. There is also an additional 22-litre storage compartment under the bonnet. Ground clearance is 140 mm.

The cabin, designed to seat five occupants, is upholstered in fabric and styled in the same manner as its closest relative. The model receives a two-spoke steering wheel with a flattened rim on both sides and physical buttons, which are also provided for the climate control unit. The ID. Cross features a two-tier centre tunnel with a wireless smartphone charging pad.

The illuminated dashboard houses a pair of relatively compact displays. One serves as the virtual instrument cluster, with a 10.25-inch diagonal. In the centre sits the touchscreen for the infotainment system (12.9 inches). On the centre tunnel there is a rotary dial for adjusting the volume, selecting a radio station or changing the music track.

The Volkswagen ID. Cross shares the MEB+ modular platform and technology with the ID. Polo. The capacity of the "entry-level" lithium iron phosphate traction battery is 37 kWh. With this, the base Trend version offers a range of 317 km on a single charge (WLTP cycle), while the Life / Style versions manage 306 km; replenishing from 10 to 80 per cent at rapid charging stations takes around 23 minutes. The "higher-spec" nickel manganese cobalt battery has a capacity of 52 kWh, offering a range of 427 km, with a similar "top-up" taking approximately 24 minutes.

The Volkswagen ID. Cross is front-wheel drive only, meaning it is fitted with a single electric motor mounted on the front axle. The entry-level variant is powered by a 116 PS electric motor, the mid-range by a 135 PS unit, and the top-spec crossover is equipped with an electric motor producing 211 PS. In the first case, the crossover takes 11 seconds to sprint from standstill to 100 km/h, in the second 9.8 seconds, and in the third 7.1 seconds. The top speed for the first two versions is limited to 150 km/h, while the flagship variant reaches 160 km/h.

Today, 15 July, dealers in Germany have begun taking pre-orders for the newcomer. The starting price of the Volkswagen ID. Cross is already known: in Europe it is priced from €27,995, equivalent to roughly 2.49 million roubles at the current exchange rate. On the Old Continent market, the newcomer will have to compete for customers with the Kia EV2 (entry price of €26,600, or around 2.37 million roubles) and the Renault 4 (priced from €26,370, or around 2.35 million roubles).
