Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 prepares for debut: first technical details revealed

According to data from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the upcoming new model, intended for the Chinese market, will share its technology with the platform-mate ID.Unyx 08 crossover.
The German conglomerate is going through another difficult period: management continues to develop a strategy to emerge from the current crisis. Nevertheless, the manufacturer evidently does not plan to cancel a number of already announced premieres. Thus, information recently emerged about the Volkswagen ID.Aura T6 crossover being prepared for its premiere, and now the first technical details of the large ID. Unyx 09 saloon have become known.

The forthcoming model will be intended for the Chinese market. As a reminder, the prototype with production-ready styling was presented in April 2026 at a special event held ahead of the Beijing Motor Show. Volkswagen Anhui (operating within the framework of the VW and JAC partnership) is responsible for the project to develop and produce the full-size four-door Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09.

Now the model shown last spring has appeared in the database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology – complete with 'live' photographs and initial technical data. The overall length of the ID. Unyx 09 is 5081 mm (228 mm longer than the ID. Unyx 07 liftback), the width is 1980 mm (128 mm more), the height is 1509 / 1526 mm depending on the version (40-57 mm less), and the wheelbase stands at 3030 mm (204 mm more). Kerb weight is 2207 / 2307 kg.

As Kolesa.ru previously reported, the saloon is based on the CEA platform with an 800-volt architecture (developed jointly with Xpeng). This platform links the new model to the VW ID. Unyx 08 crossover, which arrived on the Chinese market at the end of March 2026. To all appearances, the Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 will also share its technology with that model. At any rate, the information in the Chinese database confirms this.

Thus, the ID. Unyx 09 will be offered to Chinese customers with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. In the former case, the saloon is fitted with a single electric motor producing 313 hp. In the latter case, the model is equipped with a dual-motor powertrain featuring an additional 190 hp electric motor mounted on the front axle, with a combined output of 503 hp. The top speed, regardless of the configuration, is limited to 200 km/h.

It is known that the saloon will receive lithium iron phosphate traction batteries from CATL, although their capacity has not yet been disclosed, nor has the driving range. It is worth noting that the related VW ID. Unyx 08 is fitted with 82 and 95 kWh batteries, and the maximum range without recharging for the SUV varies between 630 and 730 km (calculated according to the CLTC cycle used in China).

Among the exterior features are: a 'shark nose', semi-circular embossed stampings on the bonnet, two-tier headlights where the upper section houses matrix daytime running light units, and below – horizontally elongated main headlight blocks that visually merge with elements on the flanks. The narrow split rear lights echo the styling of the DRLs. The model also features a panoramic roof, semi-flush door handles and 20- and 21-inch alloy wheels.
The full premiere and start of sales of the Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 in China are scheduled for the second half of 2026.
