MG is preparing to launch a new five-door model, the 07, on the market. The model will be available with either a hybrid or fully electric powertrain. It is also promised to come with a fairly generous level of equipment.

The exterior of the MG 07 was revealed in official images in May of this year, and in the same month a certification for the new model appeared in the database of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. More recently, the brand, now part of the SAIC group, has unveiled the interior of the fresh 'seven' and presented it to Chinese journalists. Finally, the model now has its own page on the brand's local consumer website. Additionally, the date for the start of order acceptance has been announced: 29 July.

As expected, the MG 07 is a liftback, although the Chinese refer to it as a saloon. Moreover, in the brand's lineup, this is already the second five-door model with a 'seven' in its name. Since 2023, a purely petrol-powered liftback, the MG 7, has been on sale in China. The new model, however, is electrified.

The MG 07 is based on SAIC's 'next-generation NEV' platform. The length of the new 'seven' is 4886 mm, the width is 1900 mm, the height is 1478 mm, and the wheelbase is 2825 mm. Thus, the MG 07 is only 2 mm longer than the previous MG 7 liftback, but the latter's wheelbase (2778 mm) is noticeably shorter than the newcomer's. The boot volume of the new five-door is 697 litres (including the underfloor storage), compared to 375 litres for the old 'seven'.

The fresh liftback boasts a striking appearance. The MG 07 features C-shaped headlights, a full-width light bar, frameless doors with semi-flush handles, and a glass roof. The lower part of the front bumper has active shutters, and the boot lid incorporates a rising spoiler. The new model is offered with 18- or 19-inch wheels. Additionally, there is an autopilot system from Momenta, complete with a lidar mounted above the windscreen.

Inside the cabin, the driver is faced with an 8.88-inch instrument display, while a 15.6-inch multimedia system tablet is positioned in the centre. The multimedia system is based on artificial intelligence.

The MG 07 also features a three-spoke steering wheel and a two-tier central tunnel, the upper part of which houses a wireless charging pad, a row of physical buttons, and uncovered cup holders. A steering column stalk controls the transmission. For the front passenger, there is a pull-out table with a mirror. The equipment list also includes heated, ventilated, and massaging seats, as well as a 21-speaker audio system. A refrigerator can be integrated into the boot space.

The new liftback will be available with either a hybrid or fully electric powertrain. However, the brand itself is currently promoting the 'electric' version. This MG 07 is expected to be offered in two variants, both rear-wheel drive. The base electric car is, according to preliminary data, based on a 400-volt architecture with a 239-horsepower motor. The more expensive 'electric' version features an 800-volt system and a 320-horsepower motor. Incidentally, the electric version has an additional 168-litre compartment under the bonnet at the front. As for the hybrid, it is known that its powertrain includes a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (112 hp) and a 207-horsepower electric motor.

More details about the MG 07 liftback are expected to emerge next week. Meanwhile, the brand is also preparing new hatchback and SUV models for Europe; these models have so far been shown as concepts.
