New Jensen Interceptor GTX 2027

Official teasers of the new coupé have recently been published online, giving us the opportunity to form a first impression of its exterior design.

The British company Jensen Motors produced sports cars from 1934 to 1976. The firm's most famous model is arguably the Interceptor coupé, which debuted in 1966 and remained in production for ten years until the company ceased operations. This model is also associated with one of Jensen's most notable achievements: it served as the basis for the FF (Ferguson Formula) coupé, the first production passenger car with permanent four-wheel drive, designed not to enhance off-road capability but to improve handling on tarmac. Part of the company survived into the 1990s and even continued producing the Interceptor in small numbers, but it never received a true successor.

In 2010, Jensen International Automotive was founded, a company that bought and restored old Interceptor coupés before reselling them. And soon, the premiere of an entirely new coupé is planned, as evidenced by the official teasers of the model. The sports car's design is clearly inspired by the classic Interceptor: it features a similar sloping roofline along with the rear window, distinctive trapezoidal rear pillars, a long wheelbase and bonnet, a long rear overhang, and a relatively short front one. The rear lights are designed as a trendy 'light bar' with a kind of dotted line beneath it, in the centre of which sits the illuminated brand name. The front end is currently only partially visible in profile, but vertical elements of the LED sidelights (two on each side) can already be seen, which will to some extent reference the four round headlights of the classic model.

The new Interceptor will feature a lightweight aluminium body, beneath which will sit an aluminium chassis, as well as a turbocharged V8 engine. It is expected to use a modified 6.2-litre engine from General Motors, which is fitted to the Chevrolet Corvette and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. In the most powerful version of the latter, with the F1 suffix, it produces 685 bhp and 911 Nm of torque. The classic Interceptor, meanwhile, used Chrysler V8 engines.

The premiere of the new Jensen Interceptor is expected closer to September. It is worth noting that the model with the GTX index will be shown first — a prototype intended exclusively for the track, but it will serve as the basis for future production models.
