Avatr 07L extended crossover launches in two versions

Orders have opened in China for the Avatr 07L estate. For now, the new model is only available as an electric car with rear-wheel drive or three-motor all-wheel drive. Hybrid versions will join the range later.

The certificate for the Avatr 07L crossover was filed with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology back in May, after which the brand released several official images of the new model. The interior was revealed in June. Now, pre-orders have opened in China. As a reminder, the Avatr brand is a joint venture between Changan, tech giant Huawei, and battery manufacturer CATL. The 07L estate is essentially a lengthened and updated version of the standard Avatr 07, which has been on sale since 2024.

The 'L' model measures 4,910 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, 1,650 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,990 mm. For comparison, the pre-facelift standard Avatr 07 is 4,825 mm long, the same 1,980 mm wide, height varies from 1,605 to 1,620 mm depending on the version, and the wheelbase is 2,940 mm.

The Avatr 07L also differs from the 'short' crossover in exterior design. The stretched version has its own bumpers and semi-concealed door handles instead of pop-out ones. The rear lights are a single bar, whereas the standard Avatr 07 has separate narrow strips. Additionally, the 'L' model has roof rails (the previous SUV did not). Like the short-wheelbase model, the Avatr 07L offers cameras instead of conventional wing mirrors and an autopilot system with a lidar above the windscreen. However, the new estate has a more advanced lidar – 896-line instead of the 192-line unit in the 'short' crossover. The driver assistance suite is, of course, from Huawei, as is the rest of the electronics.

Despite its increased dimensions, the Avatr 07L estate is strictly a five-seater. The interior is almost identical to the Avatr 07, differing only in details. For example, there are additional round audio speakers in the upper part of the doors, and the cup holders on the centre tunnel are hidden under a lid. At the end of the tunnel, there is a rectangular air vent instead of the two round ones in the standard 07, plus a touch panel has been added for controlling various settings.

The flattened steering wheel, the narrow display spanning almost the full width of the dashboard, and the large multimedia system tablet carry over from the Avatr 07. Cars with cameras instead of mirrors have a pair of displays on either side of the main screen. The 'L' model also features heated, ventilated, and massaging seats. Instead of the currently fashionable ceiling tablet in China, a projector with a roll-down screen can be ordered.

The Avatr 07L has debuted in two versions, both fully electric. The first option is a 415 hp motor on the rear axle. The second version gets all-wheel drive, with three electric motors (one at the front, two at the rear) producing a combined 968 hp. There is a single battery option with a capacity of 89.33 kWh. The rear-wheel drive crossover has a range of 725 km on the CLTC cycle and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The all-wheel drive estate will cover 650 km and reach 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. Hybrid versions of the Avatr 07L will become available later. According to preliminary data, the base hybrid will feature a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine (150 hp) acting as a generator, paired with a 314 hp electric motor on the rear axle. Higher-spec hybrid versions will be all-wheel drive, with the same internal combustion engine and three electric motors producing a combined 722 hp. It is worth noting that the 'short' Avatr 07 is also available as a hybrid or electric car, but its technical specifications are different.

The rear-wheel drive Avatr 07L electric crossover currently costs 249,900 yuan (approximately 2.9 million rubles at the current exchange rate), while the all-wheel drive estate is priced at 279,900 yuan (3.2 million rubles). The full presentation of the lengthened crossover will take place on 8 August, at which point the exact prices – including those for the hybrid versions – are likely to be announced.
