Haval Great Wall H10 flagship crossover begins its career with surging demand

The Haval brand has opened order books for its new rugged SUV. The model is available in two lengths, with both versions initially offered with a mild hybrid system. The new model also comes with all-wheel drive as standard.

Haval's new flagship crossover was first revealed in official images back in April, and that same month an online competition was held to choose its name. Designed for the domestic market, the SUV was named the Great Wall H10, although it belongs to the Haval brand (which is owned by the Great Wall Motor group, GWM). However, for export, the model will likely simply be sold as the Haval H10. This past weekend, a full launch event was held in China, where trim levels and preliminary prices were announced, and orders began to be taken. Interestingly, the manufacturer noted that within just 12 hours, the Haval Great Wall H10 had received 22,615 orders.

The crossover is built on the Guiyuan platform (also known as GWM One), which also underpins the premium SUV, the Wey V9X. In its home market, the Haval Great Wall H10 is offered in two lengths: 5,138 mm or 5,299 mm. The other dimensions are identical for both versions: width 2,050 mm, height 1,970 mm, and a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. The model rides on 20-inch wheels. The official ground clearance is 220 mm.

Haval's new flagship features a deliberately rugged exterior. Key design highlights include square headlights connected by a large solid insert, imposing bumpers, and vertical rear lights. The H10 also has a side-hinged boot door with an externally mounted spare wheel. A two-tone paint finish is available as an option.

The 'short' Haval Great Wall H10 is strictly a five-seater, while the longer version is a six-seater. The first version has solid panels behind the rear doors, whereas the second has additional windows. The boot volume of the five-seat H10 is 815 litres, expanding to 1,885 litres with the second-row seats folded down. The cargo area of the three-row crossover ranges from 316 to 1,056 litres.

Inside, there is a 10.25-inch instrument display integrated into the dashboard and a 15.6-inch multimedia tablet 'attached' to the panel. The centre console features exposed cup holders, a row of switches, and a wireless smartphone charging pad. Charging pads are also located in the doors.

The H10 is an all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid. The Hi4 powertrain includes a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine (167 hp), two electric motors, and a 42.8 kWh battery. The system's total output is 598 hp and 722 Nm. On electric power alone, the five-seat Haval Great Wall H10 can travel 232 km on the CLTC cycle, while the six-seat version manages 227 km. Regardless of the version, the crossover accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. Meanwhile, the flagship has also been certified with a hybrid system based on a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine (238 hp). It is possible that this version is being prepared for export.

In China, the five-seat Haval Great Wall H10 is currently offered in a single trim level, while the six-seat version comes in three. Standard equipment includes a power-operated boot door, the aforementioned displays, a cooled and heated box built into the centre console, heated seats for the first and second rows, a built-in dashcam, a facial recognition system, and a suite of driver assistance features comprising a lidar above the windscreen, three millimetre-wave radars, and twelve ultrasonic radars. All versions, except for the cheapest six-seat H10, also come with a ceiling-mounted tablet for rear passengers, a head-up display, massaging front seats, and a 21-speaker audio system (including speakers in the driver's seat headrest; this is an option for the base six-seat crossover). Higher-end trims also include massaging second-row seats. Finally, the top-spec Haval Great Wall H10 features a rear differential lock.

In China, the new flagship Haval hybrid crossover has been preliminarily priced between 219,800 and 239,800 yuan, which is equivalent to roughly 2.5 million to 2.8 million roubles at the current exchange rate. It is likely that once full sales launch slightly later, the actual prices will be lower. As for exports, the Haval H10 will probably be shipped overseas next year.
