Tank 400 with new technology set to enter Russian market, price revealed

The recommended retail price of the new version of the Chinese off-roader intended for the Russian automotive market is 6,999,000 roubles.

Great Wall Motor has officially announced the body-on-frame Tank 400 off-roader for the Russian market in autumn 2024. For context, it made its debut in its home market of China in 2023. In Russia, sales began in February 2025, and last summer a Kolesa.ru correspondent tested the new model in action. Now, the local GWM office has revealed that a new variant of the Tank 400, featuring alternative technology, is being prepared for an imminent launch on the Russian market.

Specifically, the new Tank 400 in Techno Premium trim is equipped with the Hi4-T plug-in hybrid system. This comprises a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine (maximum power: 231 hp, torque: 380 Nm) working in tandem with an electric motor (163 hp and 400 Nm) integrated into a nine-speed automatic gearbox. The total system output is 394 hp, with a maximum torque of 750 Nm. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 8.4 litres per 100 km. It takes 6.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h.

The system also includes a lithium-ion traction battery with a capacity of 37.1 kWh, located under the boot floor. The battery can be charged while driving via the internal combustion engine or through regenerative braking during deceleration; it also supports rapid DC charging at up to 53 kW and slow AC charging at up to 6.6 kW. The new version of the off-roader allows external equipment with a power output of up to 3.3 kW to be connected. The range on electric power alone is 110 km.

The vehicle is equipped with mechanical differential locks, an intelligent all-wheel drive system, low-range gearing, and various driving modes for the electronic systems. The ground clearance of the hybrid Tank 400 is 224 mm, with an approach angle of 33°, a departure angle of 31°, and a maximum wading depth of 800 mm.

The Tank 400 in Techno Premium trim features electrically deployable side steps, a surround-view camera system with a 'transparent bonnet' function, as well as a suite of driver assistance systems, active noise cancellation, and double-glazed windows. The model also comes with three-zone climate control, a panoramic roof, sun blinds for the rear windows, and leather interior trim. The boot volume is 566 litres, which can be expanded to 1,803 litres with the rear seats folded down.

The off-roader is fitted with an infotainment system featuring a voice assistant, a 16.2-inch touchscreen, integrated Yandex Auto online services, and over-the-air software update capability. The winter package includes heated seats for all passengers, a heated steering wheel, heated front and rear windscreens, heated exterior mirrors and windscreen washer jets, plus a rear-view camera washer, an electronic speed limiter, and an enlarged windscreen washer fluid reservoir of 4.5 litres.

According to GWM's plan, sales of the hybrid version of the Tank 400 will begin in the first half of August 2026. The recommended retail price of the new version of the off-roader is 6,999,000 roubles. For comparison, the current purely petrol-powered 'four hundred' model costs 6,299,000 roubles today.
