Bentley reveals ‘Bentley Diamond’ detailing applied to the Torcal

globalBy AutoHive Staff

Bentley Motors has revealed the 'Bentley Diamond' design signature detail applied to the 'Torcal', the brand's newest addition. The diamond pattern is one of Bentley's signature design elements. The diamond pattern has been a hallmark of Bentley design since the 1920s. In the past, wire mesh was used to protect the tall radiator from stones and debris on the road. This pattern soon found its way into the interior, leading to switches and controls engraved with the diamond motif.

During this period, some Bentley models featured brass switches with diamond-patterned controls to improve grip. Over the decades, this motif has been applied everywhere from diamond-quilted seat upholstery to mesh grilles. More recently, the 'embedded diamond' design language has been used in the details of the Bentayga's headlamps and the interior of the Continental GT.

In the Bentley Torcal, this heritage has been reimagined. A floating diamond grille, reminiscent of a precious gemstone, has been applied. This continues inside the cabin. In realising the Torcal's digital displays, the Bentley design team sought the authenticity and character of handcrafted materials rather than relying solely on computer-generated graphics.

Bentley collaborated with Cumbria Crystal, located in England's Lake District, to create bespoke hand-cut crystal designed specifically for the Torcal. The designers captured light passing through the crystal to create a visual signature imbued with depth, movement and texture. The subtle variations and natural imperfections inherent in handcraftsmanship add warmth and a human touch to the digital experience.

Further details of the Torcal will be revealed at its global launch on 23 September 2026.
