An American manufacturer has revealed the updates coming to its 2027 model year truck. The vehicles will reach US dealerships next month.

Ram, the American brand within the Stellantis automotive group, introduced the fifth-generation full-size 2500 Heavy Duty (HD) truck in 2019. As a reminder, the model underwent a planned facelift in early 2025: not only were the front-end styling and wheel designs tweaked, but the mechanicals were also upgraded. Now, the brand has detailed the updates for the 2027 model year pickup.

The Ram 2500 Power Wagon is now offered with the upgraded 6.7-litre Cummins turbo-diesel engine, which now produces a maximum power of 436 bhp and peak torque of 1,456 Nm. It is paired with an eight-speed TorqueFlite HD hydromechanical automatic gearbox from ZF. The price for this variant on the US market will be $88,470, equivalent to approximately 6.97 million roubles at current exchange rates.

Also joining the line-up is the Ram 2500 Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV), which is powered by a naturally aspirated 6.4-litre V8 Hemi petrol engine, producing 411 bhp and a maximum torque of 582 Nm. It comes with the eight-speed TorqueFlite HD automatic gearbox. It takes 8.4 seconds to accelerate from a standstill to nearly 60 mph (96.6 km/h), and its top speed is 166 km/h.

Most versions of the Ram 2500 equipped with the V8 Hemi engine now have access to a new optional Payload Upgrade package. This has increased the truck's gross vehicle weight rating from 10,000 to 11,040 lbs (i.e., from 4,536 to 5,008 kg). As the company noted, this modification now boasts best-in-class payload capacity of 4,580 lbs (2,077 kg). The package costs $835 (approximately 65,800 roubles).

Also on the list of updates for the Ram 2500 is an anti-slip rear differential, which has become a standalone option for the Tradesman trim. The top-spec Laramie trim receives colour-coded wheel arch mouldings and an extended version of RamBox (the brand's proprietary storage system with waterproof compartments integrated into the pickup's cargo bed).

Trucks with the V8 Hemi engine now feature special badges on the front wings, and the model's paint palette has been expanded with two new colours: Serrano Green Metallic and Tank Clear-Coat. Additionally, the Ram 2500 Rebel and Power Wagon now have a sports bonnet and a Warn electric winch available as optional extras (outside of the separate Level 1 package).

Production of the Ram heavyweights continues as before at the company's plant in Saltillo, Mexico. The refreshed full-size pickups will reach US dealerships in August this year.

As was revealed last spring, Ram intends to expand beyond being purely a commercial brand over the next five years: its model line-up in North America is set to become broader and more diverse. One of the new models will be an SUV, which the company has decided to name Ramcharger, a name already familiar to the brand's fans.
