Changan's Deepal S05 crossover, set to arrive in Russia, has been updated in China

Deepal has given its crossover a subtle exterior design refresh, with updates inside too. Higher trim levels now feature an improved suite of driver assistance systems. The powertrain remains unchanged.

The Deepal S05 crossover joined the range in 2024, becoming the most affordable SUV from the brand owned by Changan. Overall, the model proved successful, topping the brand's sales chart in its home market. Nevertheless, Deepal has decided to refresh its bestseller.

Today, preliminary prices for the facelifted crossover were announced in China, and orders have opened. Incidentally, only the electric version of the updated Deepal S05 is currently available to order, whereas the pre-facelift crossover also offers a hybrid variant. Whether the facelifted model will get a petrol-electric version remains unclear for now.

The Deepal S05's exterior has been tweaked. The LED internals in the upper sections of the daytime running lights have been replaced, a chrome strip now spans the full width of the front bumper, and the rear bumper has also been redesigned. The frameless doors now feature semi-concealed handles instead of flush ones. New 18-inch wheels with a fresh design have also been added.

Finally, in higher trim levels, the Deepal S05 now boasts a more advanced autopilot: the system includes a lidar above the windscreen, with a blue glow in the headlights indicating when it is active.

The dimensions of the China-market model remain unchanged. The Deepal S05 measures 4,620 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,880 mm.

Inside, a new dashboard has been fitted, along with a proper glovebox and mechanical door handles instead of buttons. In the base trims, the Deepal S05 retains the 15.4-inch multimedia screen, while higher-spec versions now get a 15.6-inch display. The 'luxury' trims also include heated and ventilated front seats (the driver's seat additionally has a massage function, with it being an option for the passenger seat).

The electric car's powertrain has been left untouched. In China, the 'green' Deepal S05 is offered with a single 272 hp electric motor on the rear axle. The more basic versions are equipped with a 56.12 kWh battery, offering a range of 520 km on the CLTC cycle. The pricier trims come with a 68.82 kWh battery, good for 620 km.

The updated Deepal S05 electric crossover has been priced preliminarily at 119,900 – 151,900 yuan, equivalent to roughly 1.4 million – 1.8 million roubles at the current exchange rate.

For context, Changan's sub-brand is also present in Russia. The rugged Deepal G318 crossover and the Deepal S07 SUV are already on sale here. The smaller Deepal S05 has also been promised to the Russian market: Russia will get the electric version with the previous design, but it will feature all-wheel drive.
