Large MG 07 liftback debuts in two power variants

At present, the new five-door MG model is only available as an electric car. A plug-in hybrid is expected to join the range later.
The first official images of the MG 07 liftback were published in May. That same month, a certificate for the new model was filed with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology database, through which we learned that the five-door would be offered with either hybrid or electric powertrains. Now, a launch event has been held in China, revealing the trim lineup and preliminary pricing, with local dealers already taking orders. However, the MG 07 is currently only available as an electric car, with the hybrid arriving on the market later. It's also worth noting that in the brand's current line-up (now owned by SAIC), this is the second liftback with a "7" in its name. Since 2023, a purely petrol-powered MG 7 has been produced in China.

The new liftback measures 4,886 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, 1,478 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,825 mm. This makes the MG 07 just 2 mm longer than the petrol model, though the latter's wheelbase (2,778 mm) is noticeably shorter than the newcomer's. The boot capacity of the fresh liftback is 697 litres (including the underfloor storage) compared to 375 litres in the old "Seven". The electric version also features an additional 168-litre compartment under the bonnet.

The MG 07 boasts striking looks. The liftback features C-shaped headlights, frameless doors with semi-concealed handles, a glass roof and a full-width light bar. The lower section of the front bumper includes active shutters. All versions except the base trim also come with a Momenta autopilot system featuring a lidar above the windscreen and a deployable spoiler on the tailgate. 18- or 19-inch wheels are available.

Inside, there are separate screens for the instrument cluster (8.88 inches) and the infotainment system (15.6 inches). Standard equipment on the MG 07 also includes: heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, ambient lighting (256 colours), wireless smartphone charging and dual-zone climate control. Options include a fold-out vanity table for the front passenger, heated, ventilated and massaging rear seats, and a fridge integrated into the boot.

In total, the electric MG 07 is offered in five trims. Three of these feature a 400-volt architecture, a 239 hp electric motor on the front axle and a 67 kWh battery. The cheapest liftback, the one without lidar, is also the longest-range – it will cover 650 km on the CLTC cycle. Models with the autopilot have a range of 610 km. Regardless of trim, the 239 hp MG 07 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.

The near-top and most luxurious five-doors feature an 800-volt architecture, a 320 hp electric motor (also front-mounted) and a 91 kWh battery from CATL. Range stands at 845 km. These versions will reach 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.

The new MG 07 liftback with the 239 hp motor is preliminarily priced between 125,900 and 145,900 yuan (approximately 1.5 million – 1.7 million roubles at current exchange rates), while the 320 hp five-door will set you back 158,900 – 168,900 yuan (1.86 million – 1.98 million roubles). Once live sales commence, actual prices are likely to be lower.
