Porsche AG unveils 2027 Taycan... featuring virtual gear shifting
Porsche AG (Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG) has announced the 2027 model year Taycan, featuring enhanced driving performance, an emotive driving experience, and an extended range.
Porsche is intensifying the emotive driving experience across all Taycan models with the new E‑Shift function. By combining virtual gear changes that replicate the sensation of a real gearshift, a reinterpreted Porsche Electric Sport Sound, and a virtual rev counter, it delivers an immersive, multi‑sensory driving experience. The paddles on the GT Sports steering wheel can be used to shift through eight virtual gears.
The E‑Shift option is available for all Taycan models and body types, and comes as standard on the Taycan Turbo GT. The shift logic and sound characteristics are tailored to each model, creating a unique acoustic signature and driving feel for each variant. E‑Shift can be activated via the mode switch on the GT Sports steering wheel. Notably, the models launched in the domestic market come with the E‑Shift option as standard, along with the Sport Chrono Package for a sports car feel, Porsche Electric Sport Sound, and a BOSE® Surround Sound System.
The Taycan also sets benchmarks in efficiency. Summer tyres with reduced rolling resistance are available as an option for rear‑wheel‑drive models (Sports Saloon and Sport Turismo). These tyres can extend the range by up to 20 km, and when combined with the Performance Battery Plus, enable a range of up to 700 km (WLTP). The 20‑inch tyres are optimised for long‑distance driving and urban environments, and the Summer Tyres Range Plus option is available in Europe and EU member states.
Furthermore, the Manthey Kit, already offered on many Porsche GT models, has been applied to a purely electric sports car for the first time with this new Taycan. The new Manthey Kit enhances the performance of the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package through extensive optimisation across aerodynamics, chassis, and powertrain. Please note that the Manthey Kit is not available as an option in the domestic market.
Porsche development driver Lars Kern lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package equipped with the Manthey Kit in just 6 minutes 55.533 seconds, setting a new record for the pure electric saloon category. The Manthey Kit is now available both as a retrofit and as a factory‑fitted option.
A new generation of infotainment system is also introduced. The Porsche Digital Interaction operating concept is based on a modern, minimalist design and offers a 3D vehicle model reflecting the customer's actual exterior colour, freely configurable widgets, and enhanced voice control via an AI‑based voice pilot.
In particular, the AI‑based voice pilot supports navigation, vehicle functions, media, and operation of certain apps, working in a more natural conversational manner. It also allows follow‑up questions without having to repeat "Hey Porsche" each time, and offers Google‑based POI search and voice‑based user guides. In the Taycan, even the charging flap can be opened via voice command.
In addition, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto integration have been expanded, and navigation functions such as online route calculation, 3D building display, and the Charging Planner have been improved. The digital user experience is completed with OTA (Over‑the‑Air) updates for the infotainment system and a smartphone tray with a magnetic ring mount offering up to 25W charging output.
The domestic selling price for the 2027 model year Taycan starts from 134.6 million KRW (including VAT), with customer deliveries expected to begin in the first half of next year.
