Genesis unveils Magma GT concept and GMR-001 hypercar design model
Genesis unveiled the 'Magma GT Concept' and the 'GMR-001 Hypercar Design Model' for the first time in Asia at a press conference for the '2026 Busan Mobility Show' held at BEXCO in Busan on Friday, the 26th.
At the press conference, the presenters included Luc Donckerwolke, President and Chief Creative Officer (CCO) and Chief Design Officer (CDO) of Hyundai Motor Group; Lee Si-hyuk, Executive Vice President and Head of the Genesis Business Division; and André Lotterer, driver for Genesis Magma Racing.
'Magma GT Concept'
Genesis is presenting the 'Magma GT Concept' for the first time in Asia, showcasing the pinnacle of 'luxury high-performance', a key pillar of the brand's expansion.
First unveiled in November last year at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, France, the Magma GT Concept is a model that embodies performance and emotional value based on Genesis's design philosophy, 'Athletic Elegance'.
Firstly, the low front end, wide fenders, and mid-ship proportions, which are a sophisticated reinterpretation of elements from GT (Grand Tourer) racing cars, are harmoniously combined.
Furthermore, the boat tail shape, which tapers towards the rear, and the low, wide body proportions reveal the vehicle's performance through its silhouette. * Boat tail: A form where the rear of the vehicle narrows towards the back, similar to the stern of a ship.
The interior design of the Magma GT Concept combines a separate structure for the driver and passenger seats with a driver-focused layout, harmoniously providing both analogue and digital information.
The analogue instrument cluster is inspired by the intricate mechanical watches used in motorsport. Additionally, precisely engineered physical controls maximise the immersive feel of operation.
Digital information is integrated in a restrained manner, delivering intuitive information without compromising the driver's concentration.
Full-scale design model of the 'GMR-001 Hypercar' that raced for 24 Hours at Le Mans
Genesis is displaying, for the first time in Asia, the full-scale design model that served as the basis for the 'GMR-001 Hypercar', which is spearheading the brand's debut season in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Based on this model, first unveiled in April 2025 at 'Genesis House New York', the brand's cultural complex in Manhattan, New York, USA, a dedicated livery design for the '24 Hours of Le Mans' was created, which took place from the 13th to the 14th (local time). * Livery: The unique exterior design applied to a race car, including paintwork, sponsor logos, and graphic patterns.
Genesis has infused this model with Korean sentiment and unique identity.
Firstly, a Taegeukgi (South Korean flag) is affixed to the front of the vehicle, and the Korean word 'Magma' (마그마) is inscribed in several places, revealing a brand identity that reflects Korean sentiment.
A gradient colour scheme, transitioning from a bright orange at the front to a deeper red towards the rear, has been applied to visually express explosive energy and a sense of escalating speed.
Furthermore, based on Genesis's signature Two Lines design that extends from the front to the side, an aerodynamic structure and sense of volume have been completed, allowing Genesis's identity to be recognised from every angle.
From Le Mans to Busan… Expanding customer experience programmes in motorsport
Genesis, which announced its entry into motorsport in December 2024, made its competitive debut 499 days later in April at the opening round of the 2026 WEC season, the '6 Hours of Imola', held in Italy.
In May, the team secured its first championship points at the second race of the season, the '6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps' in Belgium. Following this, on the 13th and 14th (local time), the GMR-001 Hypercar #19 successfully completed the world's most prestigious endurance race, the '24 Hours of Le Mans', establishing a presence on the motorsport stage.
Genesis continues its journey from Imola, Spa-Francorchamps, and Le Mans in Busan.
Firstly, André Lotterer, the Genesis Magma Racing driver and two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, attended the press conference to share his thoughts on competing in the WEC and outline future plans.
Additionally, a 'Genesis Magma Racing Zone' has been set up within the booth, offering a customer experience programme where visitors can become part of the Genesis Magma Racing team.
The Genesis Magma Racing Zone consists of: ▲ 'WEC Introduction Zone' introducing endurance racing overall, including the WEC and 24 Hours of Le Mans; ▲ 'GMR Team Introduction Zone' introducing the Genesis Magma Racing team information and drivers to domestic customers; ▲ 'GMR-001 Sim Racing Zone' where visitors can feel the driving sensation of the GMR-001 Hypercar and compete for records against drivers from the 'Genesis Magma Racing e-sports team'; ▲ 'Owners Lounge' designed as a motorsport paddock club concept; ▲ 'GMR Pit Wall' where visitors can listen to key race moments and team radio; and ▲ 'GMR Shop' where Genesis Magma Racing team merchandise can be purchased.
Passing through the Genesis Magma Racing Zone leads to the 'Magma Zone', where the GV60 Magma is displayed.
In the Magma Zone, visitors can experience the intense driving and start-up sounds of the GV60 Magma and check the performance parts applicable to high-performance vehicles.
Genesis plans to provide a profound customer experience at the Busan Mobility Show by sharing the narrative of how the intensity and dynamism of motorsport, and the capabilities built through it, ultimately translate into production vehicles.
