Polestar 3, a High-Performance Large Crossover, Completes Domestic Certification... Expected Launch in July?

Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer Polestar is expected to launch its new SUV model, the 'Polestar 3', in the domestic market. The large premium SUV, the Polestar 3, was confirmed to have completed final noise and exhaust emission certification from domestic authorities on 23 June last year, via the Ministry of Environment's vehicle emission and noise certification system (KENCIS).

The Polestar 3 is a large premium SUV with a pure electric powertrain, rivalling models such as the BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV in the market. It was first unveiled on the global stage in 2022, with sales commencing in 2024. This marks its official debut in the South Korean automotive market.

The Polestar 3's body dimensions are 4,900mm in length, 1,627mm in height, 2,120mm in width (including side mirrors), and a wheelbase of 2,985mm. The Volvo XC90, built on the same platform, measures 4,955mm in length, 1,765mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,984mm. The Polestar 3 is slightly shorter in length but features a similar wheelbase, characteristic of an electric vehicle's unique body structure.

Since its launch, the Polestar 3 has undergone continuous performance improvements through model year updates. Its 800V voltage system architecture enhances charging speed, power output, and computing processing capabilities, securing its competitive edge. Developed on Volvo's modular 'SPA2' platform, it is equipped with CATL lithium-ion batteries.

Based on global specifications, the rear-wheel-drive single motor version features a 92kWh battery pack, while the dual motor and performance versions come with a 106kWh battery pack. The models that have received domestic certification are the higher-tier dual motor and performance versions. The Polestar 3 supports rapid charging of up to 350kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes.

The Polestar 3 is an all-wheel-drive SUV combining a permanent magnet synchronous rear motor with an asynchronous front motor. The front motor features a decoupling function that disconnects it from the drive shaft during cruising when high drive output is not required, enhancing the vehicle's driving efficiency. The certified dual motor and performance specifications come standard with adaptive air suspension supplied by German premium component manufacturer ZF, and active dampers that adjust damping force up to 500 times per second based on road conditions.

The standard dual motor specification delivers a combined total output of 544hp (204hp front, 340hp rear) and maximum torque of 75.46kgf·m, accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds. The high-performance specification boasts a combined total output of 680hp (299hp front, 381hp rear) and maximum torque of 88.81kgf·m, achieving a 0-100km/h time of just 3.9 seconds. Kerb weight is 2,485kg for the dual motor and 2,520kg for the performance version. The single-charge driving range, based on European WLTP standards, reaches 635km for the dual motor and 593km for the performance version.

The core computing hardware used for Polestar's advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), battery performance management, and processing of various sensor data is equipped with the 'NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin' processor, offering 254 TOPS of computing power. Based on this, the Polestar 3 controls five radar modules, five external cameras, and 12 external ultrasonic sensors to support driving safety functions.

Interior seatbelt design also distinguishes the specifications. The dual motor features a black base with Swedish gold stripe lines, while the performance version applies the iconic Swedish gold colour to the entire seatbelt, visually emphasising its top-tier status. The 'Bowers & Wilkins' audio system, featuring headrest-integrated speakers and active road noise cancellation, can be selected as a standalone option.

In terms of cargo space, the boot has a standard capacity of 484 litres, expanding to a maximum of 1,411 litres when the rear seats are folded. The front trunk (frunk) also provides 32 litres of space. Additionally, the Polestar 3 is expected to launch with premium large SUV-appropriate convenience features, including a head-up display, power-adjustable steering column, soft-close doors, heated steering wheel, ventilated, heated, and massaging front seats, and heated rear seats.
