Xiaomi electric car sets world's first official autonomous driving record at the Nürburgring
Xiaomi EV has set a new milestone in autonomous driving technology at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The Xiaomi YU7 GT, equipped with the Track Package, completed the 20.8 km circuit without a driver, recording a lap time of 10 minutes 29.483 seconds.
This run was conducted and certified in accordance with the Nürburgring's official measurement procedures, and as a result, the Nürburgring has established a new official category for 'AUTONOMOUS DRIVING' within the electric vehicle segment.
During this challenge, the Xiaomi YU7 GT autonomously handled all driving tasks across the Nordschleife's 73 corners, an elevation change of approximately 300 metres, and a variety of complex and constantly changing road surface conditions. The Nürburgring Nordschleife, with its combination of high-speed sections, continuous technical corners, ever-changing grip levels, and extremely tight margins for error, is widely recognised as one of the world's most demanding proving grounds for vehicle performance. It has also long served as a benchmark for vehicle engineering, development, and performance validation.
Since the launch of Xiaomi HAD in 2024, Xiaomi has continued to advance its autonomous driving technology. In March 2026, the company unveiled a new vehicle platform based on the next-generation Xiaomi XLA architecture and the MiMo-Embodied foundation model. This system is designed to interpret complex driving environments, surrounding vehicles and pedestrians, and vehicle status with greater precision, guiding autonomous driving technology from merely mimicking driving patterns towards a stage of deeper environmental understanding and decision-making based on autonomous judgement.
Xiaomi's autonomous driving system is built on an end-to-end architecture and a vehicle dynamics model. This enables real-time recognition of vehicle status and road conditions, with control decisions made based on dynamic predictions. Even under high-speed and high-load conditions, the system continuously coordinates steering, braking, and power delivery to maintain vehicle stability.
Through this autonomous driving project at the Nürburgring, Xiaomi plans to use the data and system feedback obtained under extreme driving conditions to continuously improve its vehicle dynamics modelling, control strategy optimisation, and safety redundancy mechanisms.
