Severe Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 crossover prepares for launch

Geely's new SUV will be offered as an all-wheel-drive hybrid, with two such versions expected. The model will hit the domestic market before the end of this year.

Geely has taken its time with the premiere of the brutish SUV in the Galaxy line-up. The model was first shown as a concept last year. The first photographs of the production version were published in March this year, at which point the commercial name was also announced – the Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700. In early July, the interior was unveiled. And today, a showcase was held in China for local journalists and bloggers, although the manufacturer has still not revealed all the specifications. However, additional official images have been published. What's more, the Galaxy Cruiser 700 recently passed certification, so a decent picture of the model can still be formed.

The Cruiser 700 features a 'boxy' body, imposing bumpers, LED semi-circular daytime running lights, vertical rear lamps and a split tailgate, on which a spare wheel can be mounted. The emblem located on the radiator grille is illuminated. Naturally, the equipment list includes an autopilot system with a lidar mounted above the windscreen.

According to today's presentation, a wide range of accessories is also planned for the Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700. These include various trims, an expedition roof rack and additional roof lights, as well as a storage box on the rear pillar.

The Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 measures 5085 mm in length (possibly including the spare wheel), 1999 mm in width, and its height varies from 1895 to 1925 mm depending on the specification. The wheelbase is 2900 mm. Chinese media also report that the official ground clearance is 233 mm.

Inside the five-seat cabin, there is an instrument display integrated into the dashboard and a 'floating' tablet for the multimedia system. There is also a narrow display in front of the passenger. On the centre tunnel are a substantial gear lever, a charging pad and physical buttons, with a touch panel for settings at the rear end. Hidden within the central armrest is a box with heating and cooling functions.

The Galaxy Cruiser 700 is an all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid. According to documents from the Ministry of Industry, the entry-level versions feature a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 163 hp, while the more expensive variants come with a 2.0-litre turbo engine delivering 218 hp.

Geely has also previously stated that the hybrid system includes three electric motors (likely one at the front and two at the rear), and that the Cruiser 700 features a differential lock and the company's own GVMC dynamic control system. Finally, Chinese media are predicting a 'crab mode' for the newcomer. According to their reports, the total output of the top-spec SUV is 1128.5 hp. The SUV is expected to be offered with a battery capacity of 47.14 kWh.

The brutish Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 is expected to reach the domestic market before the end of this year. In 2027, the newcomer will most likely be sent for export, possibly under a different name.
