Full-size Toyota Sequoia SUV gets updates following its related pickup truck

The large SUV from the Japanese marque, designed for the American market, has gained an 'off-road' Trailhunter variant.

Toyota has been producing its current full-size SUV, the Sequoia, since 2022, and its closest relative is the Tundra pickup truck, which was recently refreshed for the 2027 model year. It is worth noting that, based on last year's results, Toyota Sequoia sales in the States saw a slight increase: dealers moved around 26,200 units, which is 0.3% more than in 2024. And for the first half of 2026, the model sold over 13,900 units (14% more than in January-June of last year).

Now, Toyota's American office has announced the updates for the 2027 model year Sequoia. The three-row SUV has received a revised front end with a redesigned large radiator grille and a different bumper, into which new rectangular fog lights have been integrated. Some versions have also gained decorative chrome inserts.

Inside, the changes are the same as those on the Tundra pickup. This means that the refreshed Sequoia now includes, as standard equipment, a 14-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system with a revised voice control function. It also features a built-in dashcam that records 20-second clips either manually or automatically using the exterior cameras, along with the Safety Sense 4.0 suite of safety systems.

The 2027 model year Toyota Sequoia will still include the SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro and Capstone trims, and a Trailhunter package has also been added to create an 'off-road' version. This variant is based on the SR5 specification but with a number of changes.

So, the Sequoia Trailhunter gets: bronze alloy wheels shod with Michelin LTX Trail 265/70R18 tyres, upgraded OME (Old Man Emu) suspension, different front dampers, and additional underbody protection. The package also includes the Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control systems, plus a rear differential lock. The equipment list for all versions of the SUV also includes a built-in 2.4 kW inverter, which can be used to power camping gear.

Regarding the mechanicals of the refreshed Sequoia, Toyota's American office said nothing, and it appears they remain unchanged. It is worth noting that the current large SUV is powered by the i-Force Max hybrid powertrain, which is based on a 3.4-litre twin-turbo V6 engine working in tandem with an electric motor. The combined output of this system is 443 bhp, with a maximum torque of 790 Nm.

The company has promised to announce prices for the 2027 model year Toyota Sequoia this coming autumn. The starting price for the current full-size SUV in the US is $65,725 (equivalent to roughly 5.13 million roubles at the current exchange rate), while the top-spec version costs at least $86,135 (around 6.72 million roubles).
