BYD Dahan flagship sedan revealed without camouflage

BYD's new large four-door saloon will be available with either hybrid or electric powertrains. The electric version will come with all-wheel drive. The new model will make its debut next month.

This large saloon from the Dynasty range was first announced by BYD at the beginning of June, when photos of a camouflaged test prototype were released. Later that month, the model appeared in the catalogue of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Now the manufacturer has released several official full-scale images. On the domestic market, the four-door will be called the BYD Dahan (the English version is Great Han). This saloon will therefore head the family, which currently includes two generations of the model. The very first BYD Han, it's worth recalling, appeared in 2020, and was last updated in 2024. A year later, the second-generation saloon launched in China, with the letter L added to its name.

The styling of the BYD Dahan follows that of previous saloons. However, the new flagship also has its own distinctive features. For instance, the bonnet extends over the front wings, and instead of pop-out door handles, there are semi-recessed ones. The lights and bumpers are unique. A two-tone paint finish is also available. Like the Han and Han L, the BYD Dahan saloon is equipped with a self-driving system featuring a lidar sensor above the windscreen.

The new model is larger than previous four-doors. The BYD Dahan measures 5,256 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, 1,510 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm. For comparison, the dimensions of the current 'first-generation' BYD Han are 4,995/1,910/1,495 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm. The BYD Han L measures 5,050/1,960/1,505 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,970 mm. The new saloon can be fitted with 20- or 21-inch wheels.

The interior has not yet been revealed by the brand itself, but the saloon has already been spotted by spy photographers, who managed to get a look inside. The BYD Dahan features a sizeable instrument screen, an even larger multimedia system tablet, and a separate display for the front passenger. On the centre console, there is a wireless charging pad and covered cup holders. Transmission control is handled by a stalk behind the steering wheel.

Like other BYD models, the Dahan saloon will be available as a plug-in hybrid or an electric car. According to certification documents, the first version is equipped with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine (156 bhp) and a single 272 bhp electric motor (presumably mounted on the front axle). Preliminary data suggests the hybrid is fitted with a battery capacity of approximately 54.5 kWh.

The electric version will be offered with either rear-wheel drive (503 bhp) or dual-motor all-wheel drive (total output of 775 bhp). This version is reportedly equipped with a battery capacity of 102 kWh.

The full unveiling of the BYD Dahan will take place in August at the Chengdu Motor Show. Before the premiere, the manufacturer may share official images of the new model's interior.
